Time Traveller......
My window is my instrument to appreciate the passage of time. This carefully positioned and proportioned opening next to my workspace is my closest encounter with diurnal and seasonal movement of time. In the chilly winters, it is my source of the warmth of the sun where I pull and shrink my space in close proximity of it. However, the ever blazing wrath of the summer sun through the window, expands my space to the far edge of my work desk.
Impressions of Time...
Accumulated stains of settled dust talks about "lived in" spaces. Spaces that have seen the passage of time and have witnessed the various events of "life in action" in our design studio. The deep crevasses of the raw edge of the wooden plank have become subdued and sober over time after rubbing against the bodies that inhabit the space..
Time, a healer.....
Time, space and matter can combine in extraordinary engineering to collate profound human encounters. As a matter of fact, time can, in a real sense and perceptually, be delayed down under the right spatial circumstances and this might give a cure to our immediate, speed-driven contemporary lives.
Experiencing Time
Planning and designing by joining hands with the natural environment around us; wrapping time around our space can yield some magical moments. Framing time at various vantage points up and down the stairway ........
Dwelling in Time
Every user experiences time in context of the materials that are used to capture time in the space. Our perspective of design and materials can export the one experiencing the space, to a different dimension or zone. Contemporary buildings give us a rushed sense of time but if the same are designed with profound choice of materials; they can slow down time and give us a sense of calmness. This is a raw space, that is ready to take its first leap of faith by submitting itself into the hands of the designer, who can work with the built and the metaphysical to weave a story that will dwell in time.
Reflection of Time
One can always make spatial experiences more enriched and profound by switching realities, turning back time. Mirrors in space can bring back time, turn infinite to finite or finite to infinite, depending upon what is the story that is being woven.......
Mirrors are a magical way to tame time in our space.....
The walls that tell stories of time
From being a silent spectator to an active participant, these walls have seen it all and have long tales of time to share. The distinct new plaster that defines the new born arch and segregates it from the white painted surface that has marks of elapsed time on it, pins its presence in the timeline of this space. These are the knots of time that play a critical and define the climaxes and high points in our stories of spaces.
Cyclical time
Windows are our connection to cyclical time. In this contemporary age of linear time where we measure time by the seconds, windows are our saviour which connect us to the cyclical time and bring us back to the circadian rhythm which our human bodies are tuned for. Maybe they give us that sense of peace because they have the capability to slow down time for us......
The Temporal Space...
Space shares an intrinsic and eternal bond with time. The passage of time is reflected in the way, the space adapts itself to the changing needs of time.
A space exposed to the vicissitudes of time builds up an intrinsic quality that can be savoured later.
Spaces that change with time convey diverse and fascinating stories that are indelible memories for every individual.
Consciousness of Time
Space frames human existence and activities; our activities dwell in time......
We dwell in time as much as in space. Architecture brings a human measure to the mysterious and intangible dimension of time. One cannot dwell outside of time.
